Finding candidates with experience and personality critical to filling consulting positions
The Client
3Com simplifies how people connect to information and services through easy-to-use technology and connectivity products and
solutions for business.
The Challenge
In 1999, 3Com began to develop plans for a new consulting division. The division would service their fifty largest enterprise
customers by providing technology infrastructure solutions. The solutions would center on highly-specialized areas of technology,
including VPN/security, palm enterprise enablement, managed network service planning, and multimedia convergence. 3Com needed
people with very specific backgrounds and experience, but they also needed those people to possess strong and likeable personalities
- an important trait in successful consultants.
3Com and PrincetonOne had a relationship dating back to 1994, when PrincetonOne was instrumental in supporting the
nationwide growth that 3Com achieved for many years. For this critical initiative, they again chose to call upon their long-time
staffing partner, PrincetonOne, to develop a solution to meet the new division's aggressive and demanding staffing goals. 3Com
knew PrincetonOne selected candidates based on both experience and personality, and this would be an important factor in hiring
new consultants.
The Solution
PrincetonOne worked closely with the 3Com management team to create a blueprint for identifying, attracting, interviewing, and
hiring these hard-to-find consultant-engineers. A project team was assembled and within three months PrincetonOne had
successfully completed over thirty searches on an exclusive basis. By doing so, PrincetonOne exceeded 3Com's staffing timeline
and was subsequently named as the single-source vendor for all staffing in the new division for the following fiscal year. To date,
PrincetonOne has fulfilled over 150 positions during this partnership.
